We are pleased to inform you of two consecutive special screenings of the semi-documentation „Deadline: Reign of Impunity“ at the UCI Kino Welt in the Millenium City, 1200 Vienna on 10 December 2011 at 5 pm and 7 pm.

The said film is based on the brutal massacre of 58 people (32 people of whom were journalists) in Maguindanao, Philippines on 23 November 2009 and is our way of drawing attention to the human rights situation prevailing in our country.

„Deadline: The Reign of Impunity“ is meant to express our call for justice: conscience and reason dictate that
- those responsible for the Maguindanao massacre and for other human rights violations be prosecuted
- the paramilitary groups that were so instrumental in carrying out the Ampatuan Massacre be disbanded.

Kilusang Mayo Uno labor center pays tribute to Comrade Patrick Mac Manus. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

The name “Patrick MacManus” is immediately recognizable to many comrades here in the Philippines and abroad doing international solidarity work. We have known the bearer of that name to be a dedicated revolutionary who maximized the potential of new media – the Internet, in particular – in spreading progressive analyses and positions on various issues affecting the workers and peoples of the world. He embodied the mantra of his blog – “For Solidarity with the Oppressed” – in opposing imperialist wars of aggression and economic plunder against the workers and peoples of the world.

The Filipino workers and people will always be grateful to Comrade Patrick Mac Manus and comrades in Denmark for supporting, in particular, the Filipino workers’ and people’s struggle against trade-union and human rights violations under the US-backed dictatorial regime of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. They were very vocal in condemning the illegal arrest, physical and mental torture, and unjust detention of the Morong 43, and in calling for their immediate release. They also called on the Aquino government to stop the alarming extra-judicial killings in the Philippines which victimized human rights advocates and defenders.

Norway Massacre a wake-up call to labor-exporting governments to curb forced migration

We at PINAS FIRST, are one with the people of Norway in mourning the great loss of lives resulting from the despicable bombing and rampage in Norway on July 22, 2011. We urge the Norwegian government to conduct a thorough investigation of the case and mete out justice against the perpetrators of this terrible crime.

We note with regret the hostilities that migrants face arising from racial and economic issues persisting among the population in host countries. This should serve as another wake-up call to labor-exporting governments like that of the Philippines to significantly curb forced migration by implementing genuine land reform and national industrialization in their respective countries. It is five after twelve.
