Ten pastors/priests/leaders will lead over a hundred Filipinos in Austria in an Ecumenical Prayer Meeting this coming Thursday, March 11, 2010, from 6:30-9:00 pm, at the Donau City Church Cellar, VIC, 1220 Vienna.
This will be one on the highlights of the campaign for Honest Orderly and Peaceful Election (HOPE) that was launched on November 30, 2009 by about twenty-five Filipino advocates.
Bro. Manny Sarmiento of the PINAS FIRST Movement in Austria, one of the organizers of the prayer meeting, said that HOPE advocates vow to closely coordinate monitor the May 2010 Philippine Electoral process and will continually strive to raise the level of Scripture literacy in the Filipino community.
„The prayer meeting itself aims to gather Pinoys in Austria and encourage their broadest participation in the entire May 2010 Philippine Election process. It also seeks to unite the Filipino Community over the need to pray collectively, to appreciate the power of prayer and the value of the Holy Scriptures and to treasure Christian and Catholic songs, culture and tradition. Moreover, it puts forward the need to recognize and support the call on the Philippine government thru petition to put an end to the political killings, harassment and intimidations. Furthermore, the prayer meeting shall be a means of enabling the Filipino community to experience bonding together and feel the love for one another and for our Motherland.“
Bro Ben Repol of KBA, the program facilitator, another HOPE advocate, announced that the programme includes a presentation, biblical reading and exultation, reflections/call to action, community prayers and community singing.
One of the Scriptures passages that will be read and explained by Pastor Oscar Bathan(JIL,Austria) is: 2 Chronicles 7:14 „ If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.“
"During the meeting, Father Mars Sahulga, SVD will lead the Ecumenical prayer for HOPE, God will be implored to “Help us, that this coming elections can, and should be, an event through which Your will is accomplished more fully in our land through our choice of leaders whom you want, and in the manner that you want them to be."
Other Pastors, Priest and Leaders who will read the Scriptures and expound it are:Fr Julian Hotico of Leopoldau Parish Church, Pastor Mars Tare of Vienna Christian Fellowship Church, Pastor Richard Elorde of CIG, Bro Larry Castillo of CFC-FFL, Bro Nonoy Silorio of Grace Church and Bro George Mortel. On the other hand the Community Singing will be led by the Followers of Good Shepherd (FGS) choir.

In May 2010, around 46 million Filipinos, including us here abroad thru the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV), will exercise our most sacred right of suffrage. Will we make it in choosing and installing the right person/s to lead our country this time around?
Historical records of the electoral process document Dirty and U...norderly Elections (DUE). In fact, the open issue of the 2004 election, the scandal of "Hello Garci" tapes, is still fresh in our minds.
As concerned Filipinos in Austria, it behooves us to do our part in promoting understanding and involvement towards an Honest, Orderly and Peaceful Election (HOPE).
Some 21 convenors, headed by Ptr Oscar Bathan, Fr Mars Sahulga and Bro Manny Sarmiento as Co-Chairs have come together and agreed, after several meetings and deliberations, to conduct this awareness campaign towards HOPE.
HOPE aims to:
1. Throw light into the context, character and dynamics of the Philippine electoral process 2. Communicate to the Pinoys in Austria the importance of the 2010 elections 3. Encourage the broadest possible participation of Pinoys (individual or community organizations thru their leaders) in the entire election process 4. Provide relevant and appropriate information that will enable potential voters to participate in the elections
HOPE will be launched on Thursday, 12 November 2009, 6-8pm at the "Breitenfeld Pfarre", Florianigasse 70, 1080 Vienna, Austria (U6 Josefstädterstrasse)
We would like to have you come, join and participate!
Let‘s hope for the best in 2010!
